Youth To The People Sephora Birthday Gift – Cleanse & Hydrate Skincare Set Review
- This is a good birthday gift option, but it's also boring.
In this post:
ToggleThe Youth To The People Cleanse & Hydrate Skincare Set is a good, safe, boring Sephora birthday gift option for everyone including all skin types. This may not be a bad thing.
This YTTP (Youth To The People) set is the only Sephora birthday gift option that can be used by pretty much everyone.
Although, it should be standard for Sephora to have options that all customers can use no matter their age, skin type, or how they identify.
This skincare set is neutral enough to be used by the masses (no skin specific active ingredients, not marketed only towards women, etc.).
I may have mixed feelings about the individual products, but I still use them all, so that says something right?
Let’s get into the review.
The Youth To The People “Cleanse & Hydrate Skincare Birthday Set” includes:
- Kale + Green Tea Spinach Vitamins Superfood Cleanser (1.0 oz / 30 ml) – $4.88 value
- Superfood Air-Whip Moisturize Cream (0.5 oz / 15 ml) – $12 value
- Superberry Hydrate + Glow Dreammask (0.1 oz / 3 ml) [foil packet] – $2.60 value
Youth To The People “Cleanse & Hydrate Skincare Birthday Set” total value = $19.48 USD
Here’s my issue with the Superfood Cleanser…the smell
Youth To The People is a “clean” skincare brand known for their cult classic Kale + Green Tea Spinach Vitamins Superfood Cleanser ($39).
This product cleanses the skin, and gives you that squeaky clean feeling but isn’t too drying.
It’s a gel formula that lathers up into a light foam, and it good for everyday use but it’s not as good for removing makeup and double cleansing.
When I tried to use the Superfood Cleanser as a makeup remover and then as a cleanser, I felt that my makeup didn’t get removed the first time, and my skin was super dry after using it a second time.
Note: The Superfood Cleanser is marketed as a makeup removing cleanser with a glowy result.
Although, I prefer my cleansers to leave my skin feeling more hydrated than “squeaky clean”, its not too big of a deal because I have a whole routine to put hydration back into my skin.
Here’s my real issue with the Superfood Cleanser…the smell.
You can smell the kale and spinach in this product, and its strong!
So, keep that mind if you choose this birthday gift option.
I don’t mind scent in my beauty products, but its not often that a veggie scent is so pungent in products.
Overall, I can see why the YTTP (Youth To The People) Superfood Cleanser is/was a cult classic, but I think the prestige beauty industry has progressed to more hydrating cleanser formulas.
You can get that “squeaky clean” result from less expensive drugstore products.
The cream is neutral and effective enough to work for most people
The Superfood Air-Whip Moisturizer ($48) is a very lightweight, but hydrating cream.
If you’re applying makeup on top, it provides a nice base because there’s no greasy or oily finish to it.
It’s a good night cream as well.
I wake up in the morning with a hydrated smooth skin.
I think that the moisturizer, just like the cleanser, is a good product.
Neutral and effective enough to work for most people.
Foil packets are the bane of my beauty existence
The last product you get in the Cleanse & Hydrate Skincare is a foil packet, which is not enough to really try, but I did purchase a mini version of the Superberry Hydrate + Glow Dreammask (full size $52).
At first, I was disappointed by this mask.
It’s a sleeping mask, so you apply at the end of the night and then wake up with glowing skin…except I didn’t get any glow from this mask.
The thick cream consistency had me fooled.
The result (on my skin) was hydrated and smooth, but not glowing.
Although this mask doesn’t give me the results I thought it would, I still find myself reaching for it often.
Many beauty lovers will like it too, if they can try it more than once (foil packets, ugh).
It really sinks into the skin, and the consistency is thick enough to seal in all the products underneath it (I probably made this up in my head).
So, it sucks that this product is a foil packet for this year’s Sephora Birthday Gift because it’s my favorite of the three products.
Boring beauty products could be a good thing
You will like the Youth To The People Cleanse & Hydrate Skincare Birthday Set if you’re looking for products that have simple ingredients, and a neutral finish (not drying or glowy).
This set is also a good choice if you’re looking for something to travel with, because at least you’ll have a moisturizer and a cleanser to use (or share with your partner).
Plus, the packaging is glass, so it’s sustainable.
You may not like this birthday gift set if you’re looking for that “glow” in the dream mask or from the cleanser.
Also, if you are sensitive to smells, pass on this birthday gift option because the Superfood Cleanser smells like full kale and spinach salad.
