Makeup dupes have been popular in the beauty community for years, but recently dupes have taken over social media platforms like Tik Tok where beauty lovers search high and low for a “dupe”; generally referring to a product that performs like a high-end product, but costs less money.

For example, popular products like Fenty Beauty’s Gloss Bomb and Dior Beauty Backstage Rosy Glow Blush have been duped by more affordable brands like Maybelline and Juvia’s Place.

Easy ways to tell if a product is a good dupe

• Is the product packaged like the high-end or popular product?
• Are the product ingredients similar to the high-end or popular product?
• Does the shade match the high-end or popular product?
• Does the product apply and perform like the high-end or popular product?
• Is the products similar to the high-end or popular product but costs less money?

I have both of these products and the ELF gloss does have a plumping effect with a similar texture.  But, the Tarte gloss has a more shiny (more “juicy”) finish. 

 

NYX Fat Oil Slick Click Lip Balm is a dupe for the Tarte Maracuja Juicy Lip Plumping Gloss

Makeup lovers say that the NYX Fat Oil Slick Click Vegan Lip Balm ($11) is a dupe for the Tarte Maracuja Juicy Lip Plumping Gloss ($24). 

But, the NYX version is not a plumping gloss for beauties who don’t want that tingly minting feeling on the lips.

The ELF Liquid Blush is a dupe for the Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Liquid Blush

Makeup lovers say that the ELF Liquid Blush (with it’s dewy finish) ($7) is a dupe for the radiant finish Soft Pinch Liquid Blushes ($23). 

Rare Beauty also offers matte finish Soft Pinch Liquid Blush shades, but ELF does not have a matte version of their new blushes, so be careful when choosing your shade. 

 

The Rom&nd Glasting Melting Balm is a dupe for the YSL Candy Glaze Lip Gloss Stick

Makeup lovers say that the Rom&nd beauty brand (which is popular on sites like Amazon) has a dupe for the popular YSL Beauty Candy Glaze Lip Gloss Stick ($42). 

I’ve had the Rom&nd version ($11.50) in my Amazon cart for a while and I will report back on if I think its a dupe. 

I’m in love with my Candy Glaze glosses, but this dupe costs a third less!

 

NYX Bare With Me Blur Foundation is a dupe for the NARS Soft Matte Foundation

Makeup lovers say that the NYX Professional Makeup Bare With Me Blur Tint Soft Matte Foundation ($14) is a dupe for the NARS Soft Matte Complete Foundation ($42).  I have both of these foundations, and I actually do think are dupes. 

They both have a blurred, matte finish that is long wearing.  They are also pigmented and are prone to oxidation (at least for my shades – deep range).

ELF Lash XTNDR (Extender) Tubing Mascara is a dupe for the Thrive Causemetics Liquid Lash Extensions Mascara

Makeup lovers say that the ELF Lash XTNDR Mascara ($7) is a strong dupe for the Thrive Causemetics Lash Extensions Mascara ($26). 

ELF was able to match the “award winning” tubing mascara formula and even the wand shape. 

We haven’t seen such a close dupe like this for a while!

Maybelline’s Lifter Gloss in Pearl ($10.99) is one of the best drugstore dupes for Fenty Beauty’s Gloss Bomb in Diamond Milk ($21) because both of these pearl colored glosses are formulated to smooth and hydrate the lips.

Fenty Beauty’s version hydrates and smooths using shea butter in it’s Gloss Bomb formula, while Maybelline uses hyaluronic acid for a similar effect.

Be cautious of products that look exactly like luxury or high-end beauty products (down to the packaging, formula list, etc.), but are being sold for an extremely discounted price as a “brand new – unopened” product.
