It seems like every beauty product release goes VIRAL on social media, but could the ELF Halo Glow Liquid Filter Complexion Booster really be that good? Will your skin look like the dewy finish dupe that everyone compares it to? I’m actually surprised by this new product.

The ELF Halo Glow Liquid Filter Complexion Booster ($14) is described as a “innovative complexion booster and skincare-makeup hybrid [that is] infused with skin-loving squalane and hyaluronic acid that work to enhance the overall look of skin while rendering a soft-focus, effortless radiance”.

The Halo Glow is available online and in store  in 8 flexible shades according to the brand’s website.

ELF Halo Glow Liquid Filter Complexion Booster Review

The teaser advertisements for this product sent beauty lovers wild!

Glow enhancing products are still on trend and brands continue to release products that try to give us that social media filter effect.

My skin type is combination; drier in some areas, and sometimes oily in my t-zone area.

However, my skin is more balanced now thanks to my skincare routine.

I’m a lot more adventurous with glowy skin products these days, even though I often wear makeup for 8-10 hours a day (Zoom calls run my life).

I always look for multi-purpose products that look great in video calls, but also in person.

Glowy products can be hit or miss for that very reason, they don’t often last long and can look greasy in person.

But, I was VERY surprised by elf’s new halo glow liquid filter. It gave my skin a healthy-looking glow that lasted all day.

Initial Thoughts on Halo Glow

The first day of testing Halo Glow, I wore it directly over my morning skincare products with no other products added.

The doe-foot applicator makes it very easy to apply.

I was immediately impressed with the color match!

I was actually going to choose a deeper shade (the shade reviewed is: 6 Tan/Deep) but that shade was sold out already.

Luckily, this shade is a perfect match. There are only 8 different shades of this product, but ELF says the range can “work beautifully across all skin tones”.

Wearing Halo Glow on the high points of your face is better if you are going for a “no makeup” makeup look, but this method disappears under foundation.

If you are a beauty that doesn’t love foundation. This product is perfect for a light coverage, natural glow that can be paired with concealer.

On days when I can’t convince myself to do a full makeup look, that is exactly what I will do.

The flawless glowy results are great for Zoom calls!

I absolutely love the look of Halo Glow as a soft-focus look under foundations too.

This combination will come in handy during winter months when my skin can look dull.

Can dry skin types use Halo glow?

Dry skin types can use the elf cosmetics halo glow liquid filter all year round!

In fact, a few of the key ingredients target moisture like squalane and hyaluronic acid.

Can acne-prone skin use elf’s halo glow liquid filter?

If you have acne-prone skin and want to use glow enhancing products like elf’s halo glow liquid filter, then try using a silicone based or matte makeup primer before application.

This will act as a barrier between your skin and the glowy product better than a thinner, water based primer.

Thinner primers which is great for everyday makeup application, wont hold up as long and can leave room for add additional shine or skin irritation.

Is the ELF Halo Glow Liquid Filter Complexion Booster a dupe for Charlotte Tilbury’s Hollywood Flawless Filter?

As you can tell from the photos, the finish is glowy but not shiny or greasy.

The product does remind me of Maybelline’s Instant Age Rewind Perfector 4-in-1 Glow Makeup ($12.99) and Charlotte Tilbury’s Hollywood Flawless Filter ($44).

Tons of Youtube beauty influencers have compared this glow filter to Charlotte Tilbury’s Hollywood Flawless Filter and I totally agree that Halo Glow is a dupe for it.

There are some differences though.

The Hollywood Flawless Filter is more expensive ($44) and offers more shades.

The ingredients are very similar however, and for the every day makeup wearer, the ELF Halo Glow product will feel and perform the same as the more expensive Hollywood Flawless Filter.

How long does the ELF Halo Glow last?

Halo glow alone lasted 7-8 hours before I started to notice additional shine.

When wearing foundation over the product (for example when I used Nars Soft Matte Foundation) the product lasted slightly less time about 6 hours before I felt that I needed to dab off extra shine.

This is shocking!

This e.l.f product is drugstore priced, and performs like its high end dupe, PLUS lasts almost all day!

I see why the product has gone viral now!

Final Thoughts on ELF’s Halo Glow Liquid Filter Complexion Booster

I think most makeup lovers will really like ELF’s Halo Glow Liquid Filter

The hype is real and it’s a great product.

It lasts almost all day, can work for most skin tones and most skin types.  Give it a try!

You will love this product if:

  • you like glowy products
  • no makeup makeup is your thing
  • you’ve always wanted to try Charlotte Tilbury’s Hollywood Flawless Filter (it’s totally a dupe)

You might not love this product if:

  • you have extremely oily skin type
  • glowy skin is not your thing
