Luxe For Less: NYX Lip Combos That Look High-End

  • Affordable, high-shine lip combos—without the splurge.

The NYX Butter Gloss has been a cult favorite for over a decade—and honestly, it’s not hard to see why.  With a silky, non-sticky texture, a $6 price tag, and shades for every skin tone, these glosses are basically royalty in the drugstore aisle.

I’m sharing luxe-looking NYX lip combos that I keep in rotation—plus tips for pairing them with liners and lipsticks you may already own.

Whether you’re a gloss-first girl or you love a layered lip, these combos prove you don’t have to spend a fortune to get a high-end look.

NYX Lip Combo: Crème Brulee Butter Gloss

The Vibe: A pale nude pink that flatters everyone.

Crème Brulee is hands-down one of the most-loved NYX Butter Gloss shades—and for good reason.  It’s a pale nude pink that somehow manages to look amazing on any skin tone.

How I Wear It: I layer Creme Brulee over this e.l.f. lipstick (in Dirty Talk) and this NYX lip liner (in Rebel Kind) for a pinky-nude lip that feels chic but effortless.  This combo pairs perfectly with everything from fresh-faced makeup to full-glam looks too!

NYX Lip Combo: Praline Butter Gloss

The Vibe: A pinky brown that gives the perfect mid-tone nude.

Praline has a bit of a backstory—it used to be a deeper brown, but NYX reformulated it to be slightly lighter.  Some longtime fans weren’t thrilled, but I still love it.

How I Wear It: I swipe Praline over this MAC lipstick (in Hug Me) and Rhode lip shaper (in Flex) to create a mid-tone pinky nude that’s ideal for work, brunch, or any day you want to look put together without trying too hard.

NYX Lip Combo: Ginger Snap Butter Gloss

The Vibe: A medium neutral brown—moody and effortless.

Ginger Snap is a medium neutral brown that’s stunning on deeper skin.  You can wear it alone or pair it with a deep neutral liner for a sultry, grown-woman vibe.

How I Wear It: My go-to is this soft brown liner from Black Opal (in Hyde Park), this MAC lipstick (in Hug Me), plus Ginger Snap for a ‘90s-inspired nude lip that still feels modern.  If you’re all about neutrals, this is the combo you’ll reach for again and again.

NYX Lip Combo: Strawberry Cheesecake Butter Gloss

The Vibe: A berry pink shade that delivers rich, bright color.

Strawberry Cheesecake surprised me—it’s way more pigmented than I expected.  On deeper skin tones, it reads as a vivid fuchsia that still feels wearable.

How I Wear It:  This deep brown NYX Suede Matte Lip Liner (in Club Hopper), a Charlotte Tilbury lipstick (in Pillow Talk Medium), and Strawberry Cheesecake underneath make this poppy pink feel sophisticated instead of too sweet.

NYX Lip Combo: Cinnamon Roll + Dark Brown Lip Liner

The Vibe: A gray brown shade for deep, sultry lips.

Cinnamon Roll is that girl for deep, rich, brown-toned lips.  It’s described as a grey brown, and when you pair it with your deepest liner, you get an almost chocolate-hazelnut finish.

How I Wear It: I love pairing Cinnamon Roll with this Juvia’s Place liner (in Rizz) and a clear gloss like this one for a deep, vampy look that’s still neutral enough for every day.

NYX Lip Combo: Cinnamon Roll + Warm Brown Lip Liner

The Vibe: A warm-toned brown that melts right into your complexion.

Combining Cinnamon Roll with the Make Up For Ever Lip Liner in Limitless Brown transforms it into a softer, warmer brown that feels cozy and effortless.

How I Wear It:  On brown skin, this Make Up For Ever lip liner (in Limitless Brown) reads as a skin-tone lip liner rather than a deep contrast, making this Cinnamon Roll NYX lip combo perfect if you want a more blended, natural finish without sacrificing richness.

NYX Lip Combo: Clear Butter Gloss + Cool Pale Pink Lipstick

The Vibe: A cool, milky pink nude that looks luxe and fresh on deep skin.

How I Wear It: I layer a very pale, cool-toned pink lipstick like this one over the Juvia’s Place deep brown liner (in Rizz), then top it with Clear Butter Gloss.  It creates the perfect soft, milky pink nude that pops without looking ashy—my absolute favorite combo in the whole roundup.

Pro Tip:
Wipe the applicator on a tissue before re-dipping—otherwise, the gloss can start to look cloudy if you’re layering over lip color.
