Traditional foundations aren’t for everyone, they can be heavy and too serious for regular days at work or at school.  This is why Tinted sunscreens and serums are so popular right now.   They’re the perfect mix of coverage and wearability.  So, the L’Oreal True Match Hyaluronic Tinted Serum($19.99) is on trend, but is it just as good as foundation?!

You can find the L’Oreal Tinted Serum at:

Purchasing issues with this product

The L’Oreal True Match Nude Hyaluronic Tinted Serum, like most skincare-makeup hybrid products is hard to formulate and shades can be a little ashy.

It was hard to find a shade match for this product.  These days brands are doing better with shade ranges (well, some brands), but I find availability in store to still be a hassle.

I originally purchased the L’Oreal Tinted Serum from Ulta Beauty online, but the shade I chose wasn’t quite right.  So, I decided to grab another shade from my local drugstore.

The result? I mixed two shades to get closer to my natural complexion. Ugh.

When I purchased my tinted serums there weren’t in-between shades (such as 7.5-8.5 and 8.5-9.5), this would have helped me find a better match and not waste money on two products.

How do you use the L’Oreal Paris True Match Nude Hyaluronic Tinted Serum?

Tinted sunscreens and serums are best applied with your fingers or with a foundation brush like the ELF Ultimate Blending Brush or IT Cosmetics Airbrush Blurring Foundation Brush #101.  This type of product tends to soak into and not spread as easily with a beauty sponge.

I use my ELF Foundation brush to apply the tinted serum, and blending is a breeze.

The coverage is sheer, but two layers build up to an even light coverage.

My dark spots and discolorations are mostly covered (with two layers), but I still need concealer and a colored pressed powder to get a medium coverage look.

Is the L’Oreal True Match Nude Hyaluronic Tinted Serum good?

I really like the L’Oreal True Match Nude Hyaluronic Tinted Serum.  I find myself gravitating to it most days because I like the light, yet even coverage.

The formula is comfortable and hydrating, and I think all skin types will like the soft satin finish.

I barely have to set this serum, a light dusting of powder works or when I want more coverage I use a colored pressed powder.

Most days I don’t set it at all, but I know in the summer months that may change.

Bonus! The coverage lasts! I get 8+ hours of wear time without any oxidation or fading.

Final Thoughts on the L’Oreal True Match Nude Hyaluronic Tinted Serum

The finish is beautiful and the coverage is adaptable for whatever you need (ie. work/school, barely there coverage, or medium coverage).

Price and shade availability are the only negatives about this Hyaluronic Tinted Serum.

As a woman of color, I don’t want (nor should I have to) go around to multiple stores to find a shade match.  Also, L’Oreal added in-between shades (ie. 7.5-8.5 and 8.5-9.5) as an after thought to the original product line.

You will like this product if:

  • You want a sheer to light coverage complexion product
  • Love skincare + makeup hybrid products
  • You want a product that is easy to apply
  • All day wear (8+ hours) is what you need

You may not like this product if:

  • You’re looking for a full coverage product
