I purchased the now infamous L’Oreal Telescopic Lift Mascara after seeing tons of social media influencers and youtubers talk about the product. There is drama surrounding the drugstore mascara that includes a famous Tik Tok content creator, and false lashes (read more on that below).

Despite the false eyelashes drama, I was immediately intrigued by the claims that it lifts, separates and gives volume to the lashes. It’s rare to find a mascara formula that does it all, especially under $15!

My lashes are sparse but regular in length and I’m always looking for a mascara formula that can lengthen, lift, and define my lashes. I’m surprised at the results of the L’Oreal Telescopic Lift Mascara but I’ll tell you why below.

Is Telescopic lift mascara tubing mascara?

Yes, L’Oreal’s Telescopic Lift Mascara is a tubing mascara as it lists the polymer PVP in the ingredient list.

A tubing mascara typically includes a polymer ingredient that “encapsulates” the lashes to create a bold, voluminous look. One of the most common polymers in mascara is PVP (polyvinylpyrrolidone).

If a mascara has PVP in its formula, then it’s definitely a tubing mascara.

What’s the difference between the black and gold telescopic mascara?

L’Oreal produces two different Telescopic mascaras; the Original Telescopic Mascara (in gold packaging), and the new Telescopic Lift Mascara (in Black packaging).

The new Telescopic Lift Mascara (in black packaging) is a tubing mascara formulated to lengthen, lift and add volume to the lashes. The original Telescopic Mascara (in gold packaging) is not a tubing mascara and is formulated to lengthen and separate the lashes.

L’oreal Telescopic Lift Washable Mascara (in Blackest Black) review

The L’Oreal Telescopic Lift Washable Mascara ($12-$15) delivers the lift and lengthen on the first layer! You don’t have to work very hard with this formula, and there is no clumping or bunching of the mascara product (which is super annoying).

Typically mascaras require two coats (or more) to see the full benefits. But with Telescopic Lift, I got the longer lashes and lifted results with just one mascara application (one layer). When it comes to volumizing, I don’t see a difference between one layer and two layers. This mascara delivers on the lengthening and lifting, BUT I don’t see a lot of volumizing with this formula.

The lifting and lengthening formula is really the advertising power of this product. There’s no way for me to tell if I’m getting 5 MM of length on my lashes but they definitely appear longer with this mascara.

The formula is lightweight and comes off easy at the end of the day.  After six hours I noticed that my lashes were still lifted and still lengthened. However, there’s no way I’m wearing this mascara for 36 hours to see if it still keeps my lashes lifted. Overall, I think the formula does hold up for an entire day.

One of the selling points of the Telescopic Lift mascara is it’s unique two-sided brush wand. You can lift and load the lashes with the curved bristles (front side the wand), and then use the flat side to separate the lashes. In theory this is a great wand design, but I don’t find that the side wand does anything to separate the lashes. I tend to go back and forth between the front and the side wand, but both sides give me the same result.

Is the L’Oreal Telescopic Lift Washable Mascara Worth It?

I think this mascara is completely worth it if you are looking for a mascara to lengthen and lift your lashes.  If you are looking for a mascara that adds volume, then maybe try a different L’Oreal product like their Volumizing Lash Paradise Mascara.

I like the tubing formula of this mascara, meaning that it includes a polymer to grip and encapsulate the lashes for maximum definition and payoff.  I find myself reaching for it daily, but I’m not sure if I would repurchase it.

There are so many mascaras to try from drugstore to high-end brands, it’s hard for me to stick to a particular formula. The L’Oreal Telescopic Lift mascara is one of the best mascaras out right now, but that likely wont last long. The beauty industry moves fast!

How do you remove L’Oreal Telescopic Lift Washable Mascara?

How I remove the mascara: I use a microfiber cloth to remove my makeup (including mascara), then cleanse the skin with a gentle gel or foaming face wash.

The Telescopic Lift mascara removes easily with my makeup cleansing cloths. It’s also easy to remove with a makeup removing oil, if you prefer that method. This formula lasts a long time, but it’s very easy to remove!

According to L’Oreal this mascara “removes easily with cleanser and water. For waterproof shade, saturate a cotton pad with micellar cleansing water. Hold the pad over closed eyes for a few seconds then gently wipe to remove”.

Is the L’Oreal Telescopic Lift Washable Mascara safe for sensitive eyes?

The Telescopic Lift Mascara may not be safe for sensitive eyes. Typically beauty brands will make it a point to say when a product is safe for sensitive eyes. Brands often including language like: “dermatologist tested”, “ophthalmologist-tested”, “allergy tested” or “safe for sensitive eyes” to let you know that their product will likely be safe for lens wearers, contact lens wearers, and those who have sensitive eyes or allergies.
