Is The L’Oreal Skin Ink 2-in-1 Foundation Really That Good? Review + Wear Test

  • A thin, self-setting base that wears like nothing—but does it deliver?

Spoiler: This formula is thin. Like “is this even on my skin?” thin—which I actually liked at first. It blended out almost effortlessly and looked natural. But, there’s more going on with the L’Oreal Skin Ink than meets the eye.

What Even Is L’Oreal Skin Ink?

L’Oreal’s new Skin Ink 2-in-1 Foundation + Concealer ($18.99) promises to be your one-stop shop for flawless, customizable coverage.  It comes in 22 shades (though honestly, the jump between some of them is wild) and claims to be:

  • Self-setting (no powder needed)
  • Long-wearing (waterproof, sweatproof, humidity proof)
  • Soft matte finish that feels weightless

I picked up two shades—Warm Medium-Tan 375  and Deep Cool 400—to see if this really could be the everyday foundation/concealer hybrid it says it is.

TL;DR on L’Oreal Skin Ink 2-in-1 Foundation + Concealer

If you want a super lightweight, self-setting foundation that stays put all day, this could be a great option—just be prepared for oxidation and shade gaps.

  • Self-setting matte finish—no powder required.
  • Impressive long wear and mostly transfer-resistant.
  • Noticeable oxidation after a few hours.
  • Big jumps between shade ranges.
  • Best suited for those who find a close shade match.

Application & First Impressions

Let’s talk about shades for a second.  The shade range is…confusing.  Even though my picks were right next to each other numerically, there was a noticeable gap in depth and undertone.

When I applied 375 Warm Medium-Tan, it looked okay in the mirror—just slightly warmer than on camera.  But by the time it set, I could already tell it was going to oxidize into a deeper, warmer tone.

As a concealer, the Skin Ink Foundation + Concealer worked surprisingly well thanks to how fast it sets.  Just don’t walk away mid-application (I learned that the hard way—one text message later and it was basically glued to my face).

Also, if you’re sensitive to scent, note that it has a light botanical smell that lingers.

Using 400 Cool as a Bronzer (Because…Why Not?)

Since 400 Cool was deeper, I decided to test it as a soft bronzer.  Once it dried down, it added a little warmth and dimension.  The difference wasn’t huge, but it was enough to make it look intentional.

The Wear Test: Oxidation and Longevity

Eight hours later, here’s what I noticed about the L’Oreal Infallible Skin Ink 2-in-1 Foundation + Concealer:

✅ It’s impressively long-wearing and transfer-resistant.
✅ My skin still looked matte and even without setting powder (aside from a little under-eye powder).
✅ It truly feels like wearing nothing.

But the oxidation is real.  You can see the clear color shift compared to my neck and chest.

If you find a perfect match, you might love this formula.  But if you’re in between shades or sensitive to undertones deepening, it could be tricky.

Final Thoughts: OK to Good, Depending on Your Shade Match

If I had to sum it up, I’d call this an okay-to-good product. The formula itself is impressive—thin, fast-drying, and surprisingly durable. But the limited and inconsistent shade jumps make it hard to recommend universally.

I’ll keep testing it to see if it earns a permanent spot in my rotation, but for now, it’s more of a situational foundation for me.
