Editor’s Notes: Let’s talk about Legacy

What do you want your legacy to be?

I’ve been thinking about my personal and professional goals a lot lately.  I mean, my time on earth is not infinite and there are things I want to achieve during my lifetime.

But, who do I want to be remembered as, and what do I want to leave on this earth that matters to me?

I want to be remembered as someone who is knowledgeable, adaptable, dependable, caring, and helpful.

These characteristics apply to both sides of my life; personally and professionally.

I’m all of those things already, but how do I prove that to myself?

Do I present to the world who I say I am?

For example, I know that I am a dependable person, but I don’t always show that to everyone around me.

So, part of my legacy journey is to outwardly show that I am dependable person.   This also spills over to my professional life.

Meeting deadlines, being on time, being available and present, these are all things tied to the idea of “being a dependable person”.

Speaking of deadlines and consistency…

Back to my point.

I’ve been thinking about what I want my “legacy” to be, and I feel clear on that vision. How did I get there?

It’s actually kind of simple. I thought about death (I know, grim.)

But seriously,

I thought, when I pass, what do I want people to say about me.

What would I want my family, friends, colleagues to say about me.

That’s the legacy!

What you want people to think about you now and after you pass on is your legacy.

It’s your purpose, and the focus you should have going forward in life.

You may say, “I dont care what people think of me” which is fine.  But, humor me for a moment.

If by some miracle you were able to look down upon yourself, what would YOU want to see?

What you want to see in yourself is the legacy you should be building.

What does this have to do with blogging?

My blogging niche is (for the most part) beauty.  In my niche, becoming a popular Beauty Guru (ie. Beauty Influencer/YouTuber) with millions of followers is widely considered the height of success.

Yes, it would be nice to go on fancy brand trips and get every popular beauty release sent to me for free BUT…

Becoming a millionaire Beauty Guru has almost NOTHING to do with “knowledgeable, adaptable, dependable, caring, and helpful” like I described earlier.

In fact, some regard the most popular Beauty Gurus to be the exact opposite of these characteristics (there’s both truth and untruth to that).

So, why even try to become that?

Success to me, is living out my legacy right now.

Let’s call them my legacy goals.

As long as I work on being a “knowledgeable, adaptable, dependable, caring, and helpful” beauty blogger, writer, partner, daughter, sister, etc. then I’m good.

That’s what I want to leave on this earth anyway.

TL:DR

• Take time to think about who you are, and who you want to be remembered as (i.e your legacy).
• Create legacy “goals” and work towards that legacy with focus and purpose.
