Luxury skincare favorite, Laneige, has the beauty community buzzing with their new Lip Treatment Balm. Does this lip balm live up to other popular lip products like the lip sleeping mask and lip glowy balm? Kinda.
The Laneige Lip Treatment Balm is described as “A pearlescent, daily lip treatment that coats lips in nourishing hydration, visibly smooths lip wrinkles, and boosts the look of lip fullness.” (from Laniege.com)
You can find the Laniege Lip Treatment Balm (0.35 oz./10g for $25) at:
Lip Treatment Balm Key Features
- Coconut Oil to deeply moisturize
- Peptide and Adenosine to help visibly smooth and firm lip wrinkles
- Cooling sensation
- Pearlescent shine that reflects light for an “illuminated pout”
- Applicator stored in the lid for “cleaner use”
Laneige Lip Treatment Balm Mini Review
The Laneige Lip Treatment Balm took the beauty community by storm.
The marketing was beautiful, and beauty gurus were raving about this product before it hit the stores online. With so much buzz around this product, I knew it was a MUST to review.
I’m not a fan of lip plumping products, but I read on social media that the treatments’ tingle wasn’t super strong. So, I decided to give it a try!
Luckily, I ended up with a sample of this product (0.07 oz/2g with no applicator) so I was able to save myself the $25!
Based on the brand’s other products, the lip treatment balm is more expensive.
The Laneige Lip Glowy Balm offers the same amount of product (0.35oz/10g) for just $17.
Applicator highs and lows
One of the selling points to this product is the applicator. It’s stored inside the lid, for what the brand calls “cleaner use”.
The idea is that, the applicator is covered and protected from potential contaminants. Plus, you dont have to dip your finger into the packaging to use it.
I don’t have the full size version of this product, but I can tell you that I love this innovation. An easy to use and easy to store/take on-the-go product is my jam!
On the down side, it would be hard to clean out that applicator storage hole. Lip gunk may start to build in the container after continued use.
What does this lip treatment balm do?
This product is marketed as a “treatment” balm. The balm itself feels light, but is glossy and hydrating. It smells like Pina Colada!
But, where’s the treatment element?
Peptide and Adenosine is responsible for the lip plumping and soft smoothing effects. Compared to similar products I’ve used in the past, the Laneige Lip Treatment Balm tingle is mild.
Laneige does list long term benefits from a Two week clinical study of 33 women, but the sample I have is about 1 week’s use.
I can visibly see the hydrating pearly smoothing finish, but I can get that result from a variety of other lip products.
Also, I dont have deeply wrinkled lips to begin with, so I may not be seeing the full impact of its benefits.
Overall, the Lip Treatment Balm give the lips a beautiful pearl finish that looks great on all skin tones.
It feels lightweight on the lips and hydrates, but I dont think its above and beyond other hydrating glowy lip balms.
You will like this product if:
- You’re looking for a mild lip plumper
- Travel friendly/On-the-go lip balms are a must have
- You like a pearlescent finish
You may not like this product if:
- You’re looking for an intense lip plump
- Tingly, cooling products are not your thing
- You dont like the “in lid” applicator
- You’re looking for a true lip treatment that will change your lips over time
Laneige Lip Treatment Balm vs Lip Sleeping Mask
The Laniege Lip Treatment Balm ($25) and Lip Sleeping Masks ($22) are not the same. The lip treatment balm is intended to be used throughout the day to hydrate and gently plump the lips, without washing off.
- thinner consistency
- pearlescent finish
- used during the day
- no wash off
- less product than lip sleeping mask (10g lip treatment balm vs 20g lip sleeping mask)
The lip sleeping masks, however, are intended to be used at night and do not include any lip plumping benefits. Laneige suggests to leave the lip sleeping mask on overnight, and gently wipe off or cleanse in the morning.
- thicker consistency
- no pearl finish
- variety of shades/scents
- use overnight
- wipe off or cleanse in the morning
- more product than lip treatment balm (10g lip treatment balm vs 20g lip sleeping mask)
