Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit Unlocked Palette in Lotus Flower Review
- Aren't we past deceptive swatch picture marketing?
In this post:
ToggleYear after year Hourglass releases a collection of Ambient Lighting Edit Palettes with beautifully artistic designs.
Beauty lovers often collect these makeup palettes for the exclusive shades and aesthetic palette covers.
But, year after year, deeper skinned beauties did not have a palette option.
The new Lotus Flower Ambient Lighting Palette looked promising!
The marketing photos showed a “true red” blush, “golden amber” finishing powder and “matte deep bronze” shade. The photos look gorgeous! I was sold!
So, did Hourglass really come through for brown and black makeup lovers? or did they use deceptive marketing swatches to make us think that this was going to work for deeper skin?
TL:DR on the Hourglass Lotus Flower Palette
- Each finish is smooth and appears softly blurred on the skin
- The Peach Fusion blush requires 3-4 layers to show up on the skin
- The Strobing Light (highlight) shades create a high impact glow
- The Eternal Light finishing powder gives the skin a soft glow
- The Bronze Heat shade is not dark skin friendly (see my shade references here)
Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette in Lotus Flower Review
I have mixed feelings about the Hourglass Lotus Flower Palette.
On one hand the finishes are beautiful, but the entire palette does not work for my skin tone (see shade references here) or any beauty deeper than me.

@nubelease Gaslit is a strong word but I really feel hoodwinked! For reference I am in the Fenty 420, Maybelline 350, Sephora Collection 50 range. Hourglass Ambient Lighting worth it?
The Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit Unlocked Palette may be worth it for beauties who: collect the palettes, are interested in the exclusive palette shades, and are in the fair, light, to medium shade categories.
If you are a brown, black or dark skinned beauty this palette really leaves something to be desired. You may be able to use half of the shades but is that worth your $90? Maybe or maybe not.
Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit Unlocked Palette in Lotus Flower Review rating: Good
Editor’s Note: Hourglass has since removed at least one of their original marketing photos (see below)
