It seems like all Glow Recipe product go “viral” on social media.  The brand is known for their hydrating skincare products but, the Strawberry BHA Pore Smoothing Blur Drops ($32) are different than their typical glowy skin launch.

This plant-derived pore minimizer is designed to “prolong makeup wear and reduce excess shine for up to 8 hours”.

As a skincare lover who also wears makeup for 8+ hours during the work week, I was intrigued by this new skincare-makeup hybrid!

Did Glow Recipe formulate a skincare product that reduces pore size, blurs the look of skin, and keeps makeup on all day?…Keep reading to find out!

What are Blur Drops?

The Glow Recipe Strawberry BHA Pore Smoothing Blur Drops ($32) are described as “An all-in-one pore treatment and silicone-free primer that refines pores over time, instantly blurs, and balances oil for a natural, soft-focus satin finish.” (from glowrecipe.com

The Blur Drops’ strawberry enzymes and tapioca starch act as a blurring makeup primer, or you can use them as the last step in your skincare routine to give your skin that smooth, shine free look.

Glow Recipe Strawberry BHA Pore Smoothing Blur Drops Review

I’ve been using the Glow Recipe Strawberry BHA Pore Smoothing Blur Drops ($32) consistently for weeks now.  On first application, I was impressed with how the blur drops smoothed my skin.

I’m a primer user, with and without makeup so I know a good primer when I use one.

Using the Blur Drops result is a visibly blurring effect, even with makeup on top.

Just a small line of product will cover your entire face, or you can apply a few drops of the primer hybrid in targeted problem areas.

I tend to concentrate blurring or mattifying primers around my nose, on my chin, and on my forehead due to my combination skin type.

The Glow Recipe Strawberry BHA Pore Smoothing Blur Drops do a good job at softly mattifying the skin in a way that doesn’t come off as dry or flat.

Of course, many beauty lovers know Glow Recipe as the glowy product brand, but this product is not dewy at all nor is it overly matte.

The primer also does a great job of extending makeup.  I notice my makeup lasting all day (for me that’s at least an 8 hour work day), and stays smooth.

But, I do get that same results from other primer favorites, so the long wearing properties don’t wow me.

I haven’t used the Blur Drops long enough to see it reduce the appearance of pores over time, and I use other products (like AHAs/BHAs) that also target that concern.

So, even if I see smaller pores, I wont be able to tell if the Blur Drops are really making that much of a difference.

For me, I was interested in this primer for its blurring and smoothing properties.  From that perspective, it’s does a great job!

How do Blur Drops fit into a skincare routine?

Glow Recipe suggests that you apply Blur Drop after cleansing and toning the skin, but before moisturizer if using it as a “pore treatment”.

This method works really well on days where I am not wearing makeup.  Especially on hot days when I don’t want to look sweaty or greasy.

As a blurring primer, Glow Recipe suggests applying a pea-sized amount as the last step of your skincare routine.

Here’s where it gets a bit weird.

The last step to my skincare routine (before applying makeup) include a hydrating moisturizer and SPF.  It seems odd to apply a thinner consistency product OVER a thicker moisturizer and SPF.

Somehow it still works, but it’s just weird.

The Blur Drops don’t work well with certain makeup products.

For the most part, I can apply my usual makeup products over the blur drops with beautifully smooth results.

However, some products don’t work well with the Glow Recipe Strawberry BHA Pore Smoothing Blur Drops.

I think the issue is powder.  In some cases, adding setting powder to my forehead (with a sponge or powder puff) makes the blur drop appear patchy.

This happens with loose and pressed setting powder.  However, its not a problem when using a powder brush.

Also, the patchiness issue doesn’t happen anywhere else on the face.

Maybe it’s the combination of concealer and powders, I am not sure.  Either way, its something to note.

The Blur Drops might not play well with heavier applications of makeup like baking or with thicker makeup products.

Are the Glow Recipe Strawberry BHA Pore Smoothing Blur Drops worth it?

Overall, I like the Glow Recipe Strawberry BHA Pore Smoothing Blur Drops.

They definitely blur and smooth the skin as well as extend makeup wear time.  I also like the soft blur they give my skin on no-makeup days.

I think any skin type will like the Glow Recipe Strawberry BHA Pore Smoothing Blur Drops.

What makes this skincare-makeup hybrid stand out is the ability to wear the product without makeup, and the active skincare ingredients that may reduce pore size over time.

Are the Blur Drops better than my other favorite makeup primers? No, they perform about the same, which is good news!

It’s a good product, especially for non-makeup wearers, those who wear lighter coverage and beauties who just love Glow Recipe

I am happy to use the remaining product, and I will keep my eye open for smaller pores over time.

You will like this product if:

  • You are looking for a light weight blurring primer
  • You need a blurring product for no-makeup days
  • You need a product to extend makeup wear time

You may not like this product if:

  • You wear heavier makeup products or “bake” your makeup
