Every Blush Placement Looks Good — Here’s Proof

  • because a good rouge isn’t about rules — it’s about play.

Blush has a funny way of making people nervous. We hear “the right blush for your face shape” or “where you should put it” like there’s a single rulebook. Truth is — there isn’t.  Makeup is fun, and blush placement is a vibe. Whether your face is round, heart shaped, oval, or anything in between, every placement has the potential to look gorgeous.

I tested this “theory” (lol) using Rare Beauty’s Soft Pinch Liquid Blush in Grace, a bright rose mauve shade that pops beautifully on my deep skin tone.  With a round face and elongated chin, I tried seven different blush placements — and each one worked. Here’s how they look, how to do them, and why they might just be your new go-to.

Baby Doll Cheek Placement (Apples of the Cheek)

This is the classic placement: blush right on the apples of the cheeks. Just a few dots blended in the center, without dragging outward.

Vibe: Youthful, sweet, everyday-friendly. Think “fresh doll-like cheeks.”

Why it works on everyone: Perfect for a no-fuss makeup day or when you want a soft, approachable look. This is one of the best blush placements for beginners because it’s nearly impossible to mess up.

Sunkissed Blush Placement

Dots of blush go across the nose bridge, sides of the nose, and apples of the cheeks, blending into a seamless flush.

Vibe: Natural, like you just came back from the beach.

Why it works on everyone: The sunkissed blush placement mimics the flush you’d get from the sun (or a strong HIIT workout).  Pair it with pink, peach, or nude tones for the most natural effect.

Lifted Apple Blush Placement

Instead of centering your blush on the apple, move it outward — onto the tops of your cheekbones — and blend upward.

Vibe: Sculpted, lifted, snatched.

Why it works on everyone:  It’s really flattering on round faces to lightly sculpt the face but of course it works on everyone.  This lifted blush placement gives subtle contour without bronzer. A few dots can slim and elongate the face instantly.

High Cheek Placement (C Cheek)

Apply blush just outside the outer corner of the eye and blend up toward the temple.

Vibe: Chic, eye-focused, subtle yet impactful.

Why it works: This draws attention upward, highlighting the eyes instead of the cheeks. It’s great if you’re doing a strong eye look or want a subtle blush style that still gives dimension.

Big C Blush Placement

Start at the apples, extend up along the cheekbone, and curve toward the temples in a “C” shape.

Vibe: Bold, artistic, modern.

Why it works on everyone: Popularized in Asian beauty and editorial looks, this blush placement trend creates a seamless wash of color that ties your whole look together. Perfect for blush lovers who don’t shy away from making a statement.

Rudy Cheek (Nose Blush Placement)

Add blush across the nose bridge with extra focus on the tip (like Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer). Blend softly into the cheeks.

Vibe: Playful, cartoon-inspired, cohesive monochrome.

Why it works: This blush placement trend is especially cute when paired with a one-tone makeup look (like pink eyeshadow + pink blush). It’s flirty, youthful, and adds a whimsical edge to any makeup routine.

Magazine Cheek (Editorial Blush Placement)

Concentrate blush right at the outer corners of the eyes, blending upward into the temple and slightly onto the lid.

Vibe: Artsy, fashion-forward, high editorial.

Why it works: This look mimics what you’d see in magazines or runway beauty — blush as eyeshadow. It creates a two-in-one effect: a soft wash of color for the eyes and a unique placement that feels intentional and creative.

At the end of the day, blush placement isn’t about following rules. It’s about play. Some days you might want the lifted look, other days you’ll crave the doll-like apples, or maybe you’ll lean into editorial vibes. Every placement works — it’s just about what you feel like wearing.
