Skincare Glow, Foundation Results: Clarins Double Serum Foundation Review in D4N
- Hybrid makeup done right.
In this post:
ToggleThe new Clarins Double Serum Foundation took months to officially arrive in the United States. By the time it finally launched stateside, the hype was already there, especially after glowing reviews started popping up from UK creators on TikTok and Instagram.
Now that I’ve finally tested it for myself though? I get it.
This is genuinely one of the best complexion products I’ve tried this year. It gives healthy, radiant skin without feeling greasy, heavy, or overly slick on my combination oily skin. And somehow, it still behaves like a true medium-to-full coverage foundation instead of just another glowy skin tint pretending to be makeup.
TL;DR on the Clarins Double Serum Foundation
The Clarins Double Serum Foundation is:
- A skincare-meets-makeup foundation with a radiant satin finish
- Lightweight with buildable coverage
- Surprisingly wearable on my combination oily skin
- One of the most beautiful “healthy skin” foundations I’ve tried
- Better applied with a brush than a sponge
- Has a luxury skincare scent that could be a turn off to some beauties
- Nubelease Rating: Great
- My rating scale: Bad – Ok – Good – Great – Must Have
Watch My Clarins Double Serum Foundation Wear Test
@nubelease 9-hour wear test results on @Clarins USA I tested the Clarins Double Serum Foundation with minimal products layered around it so I could really see how it performed on its own. And honestly? It held up beautifully. I don’t think you need mature or dry skin to enjoy this either. It really gives that healthy, alive skin look without feeling heavy. To me, this feels like a true foundation and serum hybrid that so many beauties will love! I tested the foundation for about 9 hours on my combination oily skin without primer or loose setting powder — just skincare, sunscreen, foundation, and pressed powder.
By the end of the day, my skin definitely looked more luminous, but it never crossed into that greasy or uncomfortable territory. The coverage also held up much better than I expected for such a radiant formula.

Clarins Double Serum Foundation Review on Combination Oily Skin

I swatched the shades D3W, D4C, D4N, and D5N, ultimately choosing D4N as my best match. That said, I do think the deeper shade range lacks nuance.
Although Clarins technically offers shades from fair to deep, the deeper end of the range feels compressed. The shades I tested all leaned lighter than I expected based on the website photos, and there are only a couple shades after D5N. I also found the model photos slightly misleading when trying to shade match online, which meant I basically had to guess which shade would oxidize correctly into my actual match.
Unfortunately, that “hopefully this dries down correctly” experience is still a tale as old as time for brown and Black beauties shopping foundation online.
The good news is that Clarins currently offers free foundation shade samples with purchases on their website, which really helped me test multiple shades.
Now onto the actual formula…
This foundation honestly surprised me! When I first read “luminous satin finish” and “serum foundation,” I assumed it was going to slide right off my combination oily skin within a few hours. But the formula wears beautifully.
A lot of radiant complexion products look beautiful initially but start falling apart once you begin layering concealer, powders, bronzer, or additional coverage.
This doesn’t.
I was able to build the coverage over hyperpigmentation, layer powders on top, and still maintain that breathable, skin-like finish. That flexibility is honestly my favorite thing about this product.
The dual-chamber packaging also sounded a little gimmicky to me initially, but it actually works well. The bottle separates the makeup and serum so you can adjust the dial depending on how much coverage you want.
On lighter makeup days, I could easily sheer the formula out by turning the dial to the middle (an even mix of serum + foundation). But during this wear test, I used the fullest pump setting and still got comfortable, buildable coverage.
One thing I learned quickly though: you do not need multiple full pumps. One full pump already gives solid medium coverage.
This really feels like a complexion product made for beauties who want their skin to look alive, hydrated, radiant, and expensive without sacrificing actual coverage.
How To Use the Clarins Double Serum Foundation

For me, this foundation worked well after my full skincare routine, even with sunscreen.
Because this formula already contains serum-like ingredients, I sometimes skipped my traditional serum step entirely and relied on hydrating sunscreen formulas underneath instead. A lot of my favorite sunscreen formulas already contain ingredients like hyaluronic acid and squalane anyway, so I didn’t feel like my skin was missing hydration.
I also strongly recommend applying this foundation with a brush instead of a sponge. A sponge will likely absorb too much product, and considering this foundation costs $62, I don’t want to waste any of it.
Is the Clarins Double Serum Foundation Worth It?

Honestly? Yes.
It almost feels like Clarins combined the glow people want from tinted moisturizers with the performance of an actual long-wearing foundation and somehow made it work.
This is going to be best for dry skin, normal skin, mature skin, combination skin, and beauties who love radiant makeup. If you have oily skin, I still think you can make this work, but you’ll probably want to pull out your primers, powders, and other oil-control techniques.
I do wish the deeper shade range had more depth and undertone variety but overall, Clarins really did their big one with this product.
This foundation fills a gap that a lot of complexion products haven’t fully figured out yet. It gives healthy radiant skin, real coverage, lightweight wear, and skincare-like comfort all in one product!
